Our story

Twenty-five years registered. A story that began earlier.

Old Guards’ activities began in 1998, when former players and basketball enthusiasts came together to keep the game and its friendships part of their lives. Formal registration followed on 20 September 2001.

In 2026, we celebrate 25 years of formal registration and the people who have sustained the club. At Gymkhana in Dar es Salaam, basketball continues to provide a place to meet, take part and remain connected across generations.

Basketball for Life.

Basketball and fellowship

There is always more to the game.

Basketball brings us onto the court. Friendship keeps us connected beyond it.

Old Guards brings together people with experience of the game and a shared interest in its future. Club life includes basketball, friendly games and gatherings, alongside the relationships and mutual support that grow through regular participation.

On the court

Regular basketball and friendly games for people who never stopped loving the game.

Off the court

Friendship and support for one another through celebrations, loss and everything between.

Across generations

Experience from decades in the game, and a wish to pass it on.

Our home

At home at Gymkhana.

Membership

Stay connected to basketball.

  • Membership is ordinarily for people aged 30 and above.
  • Admission follows the club’s constitutional requirements and process.
  • Contact us to discuss eligibility, current fees and how to apply.

An enquiry does not confirm admission or reserve a place.

Partnerships

Help shape the next chapter.

We welcome conversations with organisations and individuals who share an interest in basketball, community and the future of the club.

  • Court upkeep at Gymkhana
  • Basketball equipment
  • Club activities and gatherings
  • Future mentorship and heritage initiatives

Each collaboration should have a clear purpose, agreed responsibilities and practical outcomes.
